Where can we find serenity? Where can we find freedom? What is the relationship between the two?
My husband comes back from work complaining about how hard he is working every day and how he is tired of doing that. How tired he is by driving to work the entire week. My husband sees me so happy being at home with the kids, while he is running around to bring groceries from town and taking care of our household income. “I want to stay home too”, he stated. Then, he came with this idea, that once a week I will go to be at his business, while he stays home with the kids, and helping them with distant learning. Taking care of the house and the animals. With gladness, I said, “why not”. I am glad to try whatever comes my way, to be outside the house, and to refresh my daily routine.
That day had arrived and I woke up with lots of energy to leave my kids with my husband. Honestly, I had a blast of a day. Obviously, at the end of the day, I came home and my husband was exhausted. Since it was Covid time, although the kids were old enough for certain things, it was a constant fight to have them studying remotely, and as kids can be very demanding, my husband had thought how silly he was, to think that it would be easier for him to stay at home with the kids, nevertheless, relaxing. I told him, now it is your time to be happy with what you have got from God. Now know what serenity is.
How can we find serenity during our day?
- Remember to pause the day from time to time and think about what you are going to do next. Make a plan for the day, what you absolutely want to achieve today.
- Have an intentional lunch break, sit on a chair, and enjoy the moments of eating. Taste your food. Clean after you.
- Do what you do. If you do computer work, remember your aim. Work on the computer can bring you all over the place. If you fold laundry, fold laundry also in your mind, enjoy the process.
- Make the day balanced. If your day involves a lot of computer work, make sure to have some movement during your day, take a short walk. Make sure you have a moment of chat with an adult to open up your heart and exchange energy. Make sure to have at least five minutes of studying something new, to train your brain muscle.
- Have an ongoing project which is your creation, that you know will produce benefit in the future. Nourish it for 10 minutes a day. It will give you satisfaction.
- Be outside! Look for a corner with earth, and flowers.
Being deliberate with our day, will create the serenity within us.
Freedom will come from our ability to control our daily life and to control the flow of the day and the ability to be deliberate.
